Committed to Heritage

The land which the Cavalier Club, its facilities, golf course, and surrounding neighborhoods are situated was once rich and fertile farmland belonging to several families – all who also had the good fortune of enjoying spectacular views of the Linkhorn Bay.

By the early 1900's Birdneck was divided into five areas held by five families. The Cavalier Hotel, the grand hotel overlooking the Virginia Beach oceanfront, purchased the land held by these families and invited their hotel guests to enjoy this area for such activities as skeet shooting, hydroplaning, equestrian sports, tennis, and golf. The Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club was established in 1928, and today we are excited about our Centennial Celebration that starts now and continues through 2028.

Honouring our Legacy

As we celebrate the rich heritage and lasting legacy of our Club, the Historical Committee is undertaking a number of meaningful initiatives to honour our past and share it with you, our current Members, as well as with generations to come. From numerous planned special events and curated displays to the publication of a commemorative centennial book, our goal is to capture the essence of what has made this community so special across the decades. We are actively gathering stories, photographs, artifacts, and personal reflections that can contribute not only to the milestones but also to the memories. We are looking to document and to forever preserve the everyday moments, the friendships, the traditions, and the triumphs that have defined our shared experience. Whether you have been part of the journey for decades or just for a season, your perspective and contribution help to complete the picture. We invite all members, families, and friends of the Club to contribute and help us piece together the full tapestry of our history.
